Over the last six to eight months I’ve written some posts about challenging yourself, changing things in your life that don’t make you happy, about being happy and doing what you want and shared how I did something about my own situation.

After talking and writing about it, it’s not a coincidence that in July 2012, after returning from an amazing experience with FitFluential and GNC at the CrossFit Games, I left my fulltime job as a manager of online and digital media at an ad agency and took a 60% pay cut to work in a gym as a part-time personal trainer.  I wasn’t happy at my job and it was affecting everything else in my life and I needed a change.  I needed to follow my passion in the health and fitness industry, my end goal has always been to own and operate my own gym, and I knew this was the mandatory first step.

Flash forward 3 months, and after a lot of very very hard work, my dream has become a reality.  I officially own a gym.

I’m happy to announce that on Friday, October 19th, 2012, I joined into a business partnership with Mr. John Stanley for the ownership of Just Fitness in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. (So, if you’ve been wondering or caring why I haven’t been so active on the blog lately it’s because I’ve been working towards my goal and working 14 hour days, 6 days a week to get there.)

Just Fitness has been around for 2 years and is based on the same kind of high intensity, functional fitness training that CrossFit is (What is CrossFit?) PLUS we’ve got some awesome programs like Life Change Yellowknife. LCY is a program for people who are where I once was and need a starting point to begin their own personal health and wellness journey. We also currently offer boxing and kickboxing to youth under 18 for free and we’re starting a Sports Related Training Program for kids sports teams and those of us who consider themselves weekend warriors and want to perform better on the sports field and on the hockey rink.  Last, but certainly not least, we’ve got yoga to balance out our weight training and high intensity programs and we are currently developing a new program that combines the two as well as mental focus and finding your inner self and beauty.

In just 5 days things have already started to move forward and we plan to have some final details on our new programs nailed down before the beginning of November and I can’t wait!

I’m beyond happy to be following my heart and my dreams and if I can leave you with something, it willbe this this; if you’re unhappy, do something to change your life for the better.  I’m not telling you to go out and quit your job, like I did. I took a HUGE risk and I am very lucky to have an amazing woman behind me who supports me in everything I do (and who also has a well paying job to support my broke ass), but if you’re unhappy and you’re not willing to do something for yourself to become happy, who will?

Awesome! I just came across your blog recently and I must thank you for being so inspiring! Why do so many people (I’ll admit that I am one of those people at times) go along in life being so unhappy? Congrats on following your dreams, obviously it is working out. It moves me to work on doing the same.
