Former athlete turned fat man and now former fat man turned health enthusiast.
Helping you find your inner healthy self.
The reason I started Your Inner Skinny was because during my own weight loss, I did a lot of reading and research online about how I SHOULD lose weight and I wasn’t happy with most of what I read. The reason I got so frustrated with what I read was because it was mostly people telling me I had to eat perfect every single day of my life and hit the gym 7 times a week if I wanted to get healthy and stay healthy. This did nothing more then set me up for failure, which happened many times before I finally succeeded. Once I finally realized that what I was reading wasn’t entirely true, I was able to move on with my own journey and successfully lose 100+lbs.
With Your Inner Skinny, I want to be the filter between those who say that you have to be “perfect” all the time and those who are out there looking for help and don’t know any better, simply because I didn’t have someone like me and I really could have used one! I’ve learned a lot on my journey to lose over 100 lbs, and I want to share what I’ve learned. My fails and my successes, what worked for me, what’s worked for others and any advice I can pass on along the way.
Fitness and healthy living has become a huge part of my life and right now I’m in the middle of doing my personal trainer’s certifications through the Health & Fitness Alliance as well as through CanFit Pro and I plan to make that a part of my career down the road. I put on 100+ lbs sitting behind a desk as a graphic designer and web developer, but now I want to use what I’ve learned in my weight loss journey and combine it with those skills and reach out to people to help them get healthy.
After dealing with the ups and downs for several years with trying to lose weight and having no one to talk to about it (guys don’t share their feelings ya know) I decided to start up Your Inner Skinny as a personal blog to vent about what was going on in my weight loss life. YIS has evolved and changed a lot over the past year and a half. It’s gone from a simple blog that my family and friends read when they were bored at work, to a hub where you can look for workouts, recipes, fitness tips and of course still read my rantings in my blog.
Follow me and my journey here on the blog, on Twitter and on Facebook. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them. Or if you don’t want to leave it publicly, feel free to contact me directly [email protected]
Great write Scott! You’ve been up and down and know a lot of what you “should” do, but don’t always do that. Which, hey, we all do!
I applaud you for recognizing your failures and not let them continue to be failures! You turn them around and do something positive because you want to be healthy! Good for you!
I look forward to reading more!
This is the reason I started this site. People need to know that everyone screws up in their workout or their diet… No one is perfect, no matter what they tell you.
Nice job. Good read. This is why I follow you. Keep it up.
It’s nice to hear a male voice in this community. I look forward to reading more.
Wow- this is such a great read. I actually got really sick and put on weight after losing eighty pounds because I was pretty much bedridden. I’m working on getting back to my “good place,” but it can be really frustrating. I’m glad you shouted out on Twitter- i’ll be reading from now on! Also, I, too, suffer from migraines every couple of weeks- it’s ROUGH! I’m trying to figure out what’s causing mine, too. I think i have it narrowed down, but in the meantime, I’ve got enough Excedrin Migraine to put down an elephant! Looking forward to reading more.
Scott – I’m so glad I stumbled upon your blog. I live in Halifax also, and about 3 years ago hit my goal weight after losing 145 pounds. I’m a daily gym goer/ runner too. A few months ago I suffered an injury and put on a few pounds. I’m struggling so hard to get those pounds back off – but it’s not coming easy. Seems the older I get the harder it is. Your story is inspiring – I’ve been considering getting my certification in group excercise…..but haven’t pursued it yet. Thank you for all the great tips and recipes. I’ll be visiting your site often! cheers.
I think I’ve found my new motivation. I used to work out 3x/week and run a little bit as well as play hockey once a week. That came to a grinding halt on Sept. 2 this year when I was T-boned by a 17 year old kid with no licence. So, 5 weeks later, I’m still in quite a bit of neck and back pain and have found a new hobby….eating!!! I can feel myself getting fatter by the minute….at the same time unable to stop myself from doing it even though I know what it’s doing to my body! I’ve only read your “About” section so far, but I hope the rest of your blog will help me out of this funk and get me motivated to at least eat right while I can’t exercise.
Thanks for doing this!!
Thanks for the comment. I’m sorry to hear about your accident, I know how you feel. Don’t push yourself too hard, too fast with getting back in to working out and playing hockey because you’ll only do more damage. The only thing you can do is take care of yourself and eat properly. If you need anything, any advice or someone to talk to who’s been through it, feel free to drop me a line.
I couldn’t agree more with the others – your blog is a huge inspiration. I just wanted to let you know that someone read my story on your blog and have recently asked me to give a motivational speech on weight loss, fitness and healthy eating next month!
Also, I’m now thinking of starting my own blog to try and offer some inspiration to others as well! Keep up the great work! :)
That’s amazing Amanda! Good for you! How’s the progress going?
