Why This Matters
Did you know that 1 in 100 people are born with a congenital heart defect (CHD)? Did you know that in Canada, one person dies every 5 minutes from heart disease, stroke, or vascular cognitive impairment? Did you know that more than 3.5 million people across Canada are living with these conditions.
But here’s the hopeful part: we’re on the verge of significant breakthroughs, and your donation can help make them happen.
Why I’m Hosting This Walk
My name is Scott Thomson, and earlier this year I was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve, a type of congenital heart defect that I’ve had since I was born. I had a long four years of pushing and searching for answers, and if I hadn’t pushed for testing, I may never have known that I had BAV until it was too late.
That’s why I’m organizing the Heart & Stroke Walk for 1 in 100. This isn’t just about me. It’s about shining a light on CHD, raising awareness, and making sure others know the signs and the importance of screening before it affects them or their loved ones.

How Your Support Helps
Your donation will support life-saving research, advocacy, and education through the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Every year, volunteer fundraisers across Canada raise funds for this critical work. Together, we can fuel the next big breakthrough, drive new scientific discoveries, and save lives.
When you give, you’re not only supporting people like me, you’re helping:
-
Families living with CHD and heart disease
-
Kids who deserve early screening and timely care
-
Remote and northern communities where access to treatment and travel support is often limited
